"Harvest of Blossoms" Interview met Irene Silverblatt

Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger’s life ended tragically in a Nazi concentration camp. But the young Romanian’s handwritten album of poetry survived. Selma’s work is well known in Europe, where she’s inspired poets, pop stars and playwrights alike.

Now, for the first time, it’s available in English thanks to the work of Duke Professor and Editor Irene Silverblatt, who also happens to be Selma’s cousin. The English translation is called "Harvest of Blossoms: Poems from a Life Cut Short" (Northwestern University Press/ 2008). Irene Silverblatt recounts the moving story of the teen poet’s life and the remarkable story of how her manuscript survived.
